New appliances

Lisa and I have been talking for a while to get a new Washing machine and a new freezer. I found a website that said our 1980's freezer uses between 200 and 260 bucks a year. The new chest freezers only use like 50 bucks so that was a no brainer. We got a 15 cubic foot one with some sliding compartments. It is working out great.

Lisa was in a spending mood so she bought a front loading Maytag washer too. The front loader use way less water per load. I have read betwwen 10 and 20 gallons per load compared to 40 for the old top load style we got rid of. They also use way less electricity.

We or she listed the old appliances of Craigs list and we were able to sell them (reuse) for 50 and 25 buck respectively. That cut the cost down a little. We were disappointed to find out that only Courtland Minnesota does not give a rebate for buying green energy efficient appliances. Sleepy Eye gives 200, New ulm 75....
We get nothing. Get with the times Courtland. Going green helps us all. Now I can't wait to get our next water and electric bills. I have been tracking them for the last 3 years and checking what impact my going green has on the bottom line. I will let you know when the bills come.
